There's white powder everywhere from my fountain/fogger?
i have one of those little misty, foggy, fountain bowl things, (ultrasonic humidifier) and it makes white dusty stuff settle on everything . I woudl assume that this is probably caused by the salt in the water i'm using, does anyone know of any way to stop it from happening without buying stuff to put in it? (home remedies possibly??) otherwise, has anyone had any positive experiences with store bought remedies?
i've thought of distilled water, and i'm sure that'd work, but it goes through probably a half gallon per day. (could get expensive) i already run it through a PUR water filter, but apparently its not taking out whatever causes the powder...

The first answer is right. Make sure it's distilled and not just bottled. It's only about $.60 a gallon. After the lime (or maybe salt) is gone, maybe a half tap, half distilled will keep it running clean. I had a reverse osmosis water purifier installed several years ago, and never regretted the decision. I use this purified water for humidifiers, coffee makers, ice maker and to top off the fish tank.
